December 2014

Dear Family and Friends,

Four events earned most of our attention this year:

A reunion. A river cruise. A wildlife safari. Two new great-grandchildren.

In July all six of our offspring were together in Taos, NM for a family reunion. In the grand setting of the Rockies we hiked, shared news and views, watched dances and just enjoyed each other’s many blessings.

In September we (2) took a Viking cruise down the Rhone river in eastern France. Physically it was leisurely. Socially it was very congenial. Historically it was enlightening. The cuisine was cordon bleu and the waiters celebrated our 68th with a song.

October. From France we flew to Nairobi for an overnight with chums of <80 years. Then we bussed to Arusha where we joined Marilyn and Steve and some medical colleagues from KCMC days for a wildlife safari. We traversed Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Ndutu and the Seronera Serengeti. The vast vistas were matched by vast herds of migrating wildebeest and a great variety of the rest of the animal kingdom.

Then back to “Olasiti”, Steve and Marilyn’s ranch near Arusha where we enjoyed two weeks of family and other reconnections in the area. Special was getting to know two great-grandkids whose parents run a flower farm on the slopes of a volcano.

Finally an overnight in Nairobi for an up-date with AMREF (Flying Docs) and NAVS friends, then back to Albuquerque. We were away a month. Our travel itinerary included eighteen embarkations and debarkations (each). The Air France pilot’s strike seriously affected every single one of these. Thankfully daughter Gini’s herculean efforts on the web and phone on our behalf preserved us from otherwise likely catastrophic cancellation. The trip was memorable in more ways than we had planned!!

“GOODBYE”  (translation: God Bless You)

Roy and Betty
